Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can anyone complete a DBQ or write a Nexus Letter?
In short, no. While some mental health treatment providers may offer a Nexus Letter in support of their Veteran client for their mental health claims, they may not be fully aware of the information and language that should be included to build the strongest case. For DBQs, the VA has set the standard that only doctoral level psychologists or board certified psychiatrists may complete this form on behalf of a Veteran. Dr. Bevacqua is a doctoral level psychologist with specific knowledge and experience completing both DBQs and Nexus Letters.
2. Are you affiliated with the VA?
No, Dr. Bevacqua does not hold any current affiliation with the VA and does not complete Compensation and Pension (C&P) exams for the VA. Dr. Bevacqua operates independently, and his role is to provide thorough, research-backed evidence and documentation that provides the VA with the most robust information to make a fair decision about your claim. Costs associated with these services are not reimbursable by the VA.
3. Do you accept insurance?
No, these services are not covered by insurance. Payment is made in full prior to the scheduling of a telehealth examination.
4. What is your cost of services?
     - Exam/IPE/DBQ/Nexus Letter: $750
     - TDIU Letter: $650

There are no other hidden or additional costs associated with either of these services. To increase the accessibility of these services for Veterans, Dr. Bevacqua maintains rates on the lower end compared to other providers offering similar services.
5. How quickly can I be seen for my exam?
Once payment is made and records are received, you will be provided a link to self-schedule your telehealth appointment. Typically, appointments are available within one week or less from that time. This is typically on par with, or quicker than, other providers offering similar services.
6. Are exams completed in-person or virtually?
All independent psychological evaluations are completed virtually through a secure Zoom video call. This increases accessibility so as to not have to travel to a specific office location.
7. What is your turnaround time for completed documentation?
Turnaround time for all services is typically one week or less. For IPEs/DBQs/Nexus Letters, this is one week from the date of our telehealth evaluation. For TDIU letters, this is one week from the receipt of all requested documentation. This time frame is generally on par with, or quicker than, other providers offering similar services.
8. Are there any guarantees of recommendations or outcomes with the VA?
Unfortunately, no, and Dr. Bevacqua recommends steering away from any doctor or company that claims a guaranteed outcome! Dr. Bevacqua cannot guarantee upfront that he will be able to offer a specific diagnosis, nor make a specific recommendation to the VA in his documentation. Regardless of recommendation, there is no guarantee of what the VA's decision will be Your result is based on a number of factors, including the severity of your situation, the available documentation to support your claim, the quality of the completed documentation, and, ultimately, the VA's decision-makers. In general, your best chances for success come from working with an experienced provider who will be thorough in understanding your case, detail-oriented in their completion of documentation, and is familiar with the VA's expectations for information and use of specific language.
9. If I submit a DBQ/Nexus Letter, will I still have to complete a Compensation and Pension (C&P) exam?
The short answer is, maybe. In cases that I have been involved with, I have seen the VA make decisions without requiring the Veteran to attend a C&P exam with one of their examiners, but I have also seen cases where they did require the Veteran to attend a C&P exam. If the VA notifies you that they are requiring you to attend a C&P exam, you must attend. Even if you are required to attend a C&P exam, having an IPE/DBQ/Nexus Letter in your file can provide additional, thorough, supporting evidence for when your claim is decided.
